Parton shower contributions to jets from high rapidities at the LHC

We discuss current issues associated with the dependence of jet distributions at the LHC on the behavior of QCD parton showers for high rapidities.Comment: Contribution at DIS2012, Univ. of Bonn, March 201

Z boson production in proton-lead collisions at the LHC accounting for transverse momenta of initial partons

We perform a calculation of inclusive ZZ boson production in proton-lead collisions at the LHC taking into account the transverse momenta of the initial partons. We use the framework of kTk_T-factorization combining transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) with off-shell matrix elements. In order to do it we need to construct appropriate TMDs for lead nuclei which is done using the parton branching method. Our computations are compared with data from CMS taken at s=5.02\sqrt{s}=5.02 TeV. The results are in good agreement with the measurements especially the transverse momentum distribution of the ZZ boson.Comment: 17 pages, 12 figure

Absolute differential cross sections for electron-impact excitation of CO near threshold: II. The Rydberg states of CO

    Get PDF
Absolute differential cross sections for electron-impact excitation of Rydberg states of CO have been measured from threshold to 3.7 eV above threshold and for scattering angles between 20° and 140°. Measured excitation functions for the b 3Σ+, B 1Σ+ and E 1π states are compared with cross sections calculated by the Schwinger multichannel method. The behaviour of the excitation functions for these states and for the j 3Σ+ and C 1Σ+ states is analysed in terms of negative-ion states. One of these resonances has not been previously reported

‘My Business is All About Love and Care’: Korean Female Immigrant Entrepreneurship in Sydney

This paper reports on a study of Korean immigrant women to examine various personal, social, economic and cultural aspects of their entrepreneurial activities in Australia. Based on in-depth interviews, findings suggest that women’s decision to start business was greatly affected by a complex interaction between push and pull factors; that their performance in the business were often constrained by a lack of support and resources as well as traditional gender role; and that doing business empowered the women, helping improve financial, social and/or psychological independence. These findings, although generated from a small sample, will contribute to a better understanding of the intersection of gender, ethnicity and entrepreneurship

Calculation of the Z+jet cross section including transverse momenta of initial partons

We perform calculations of Z+jet cross-section taking into account the transverse momenta of the initial partons. Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) parton densities obtained with the Parton Branching method are used and higher order corrections are included via TMD parton showers in the initial state. The predictions are compared to measurements of forward Z+jet production of the LHCb collaboration at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 TeV. We show that the results obtained in kT-factorization are in good agreement with results obtained from a NLO calculation matched with traditional parton showers. We also demonstrate that in the forward rapidity region, kT-factorization and hybrid factorization predictions agree with each other.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figure

Quiescent X-Ray/Optical Counterparts of the Black Hole Transient H 1705-250

We report the result of a new Chandra observation of the black hole X-ray transient H 1705-250 in quiescence. H 1705-250 was barely detected in the new 50 ks Chandra observation. With 5 detected counts, we estimate the source quiescent luminosity to be Lx~9.1e30 erg/s in the 0.5-10 keV band (adopting a distance of 8.6 kpc). This value is in line with the quiescent luminosities found among other black hole X-ray binaries with similar orbital periods. By using images taken with the Faulkes Telescope North, we derive a refined position of H 1705-250. We also present the long-term lightcurve of the optical counterpart from 2006 to 2012, and show evidence for variability in quiescence.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures; Accepted for publication in MNRA
